Antique Seth Thomas ‘WALES’ Mantel Clock – Cir. 1904 – Elegant Running Clock Picture(s) and Description:
Antique Seth Thomas 'WALES' Mantel Clock - Cir. 1904 - Elegant Running Clock Up for auction is an elegant Antique Seth Thomas 'Wales' Mantel Clock from the early part of the 1900's. This is a wonderful 8-Day time & strike clock that is in working condition as you can see by the blurred pendulum in photos #7. This Wales style clock was part of the Seth Thomas 'City Series', dating this particular clock right around 1904 (with a chance of a couple of years on either side of the year 1904). The convex & beveled glass is in pristine condition having no cracks, scratches or chips and the clock case is also in wonderful condition showing only minor signs of age. To be safe, I will say that there are a few minor scratches but these are quite small, not highly visible because they are not big or penetrating, there is not much that takes away from the appearance on this classic cabinet style case and this lovely clock. The 5" porcelain dial is in wonderful condition and is marked SETH THOMAS - MADE IN U.S.A. There is a small chip in the porcelain dial, right on the right side winding arbor but again, hard to notice. I have seen other examples of this Wales clock and there are ones with and without brass grommets around the winding arbors. This clock does not have the brass grommets present. The key that was with the clock when I found it fits perfectly and winds the clock without any issues however it is an antique E. Ingraham - Bristol, Conn. key - I just wanted to note that. The movement is very clean and it is clearly marked MADE IN U.S. AMERICA - S.T. U.S.A. - 48R, and the pendulum is a solid brass bob on a rod. I am selling a number of fantastic clocks this week from my 'picking adventures' that came from a single collector (see a couple of these clocks in photo # 12). Because I am not a clock expert and because this clock has only been in my possession for a couple of days now, even though it is running and keeps accurate time, I am selling this as is because I do not know when it was serviced last. Case Measurements: Height: 10 1/2 inches Width: 8 1/2 inches Depth: 5 1/2 inches Please Note: ALL of my auctions ALWAYS start at a low price AND there is NEVER A RESERVE on any of my auctions! Important: I am asking that you please view the photos for the most accurate description for this auction. For your convenience, I have photographed this Seth Thomas 'Wales' Mantel Clock against a plain white sheet of paper in order to capture all of the details (and added the optional 'zoom' view to each photo for the listing for close up inspections). I enjoy discovering pieces of history and passing them along to folks who will cherish and appreciate them as much as I do. 2. I am not a dealer. I go on picks when I have free time to do so.
