Great 17th century painting, Salome with the head of the Baptist

Antique painting from the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork of considerable size, depicting Salome with the head of the Baptist. Salome's mother abandoned her husband and went to live with her brother-in-law, King Herod. John the Baptist publicly condemned the incident and was imprisoned. To please the beautiful Salome, Herod then had the Baptist beheaded. The scene takes place at night, in the light of a candle that radiates the protagonists with extraordinary light and shadow effects. Note the quality with which the muscular back of the man in the foreground and the clothes of the women are painted. Italian painting of excellent pictorial quality and great impact, for antique dealers and collectors of Baroque painting in the Caravaggesque style. Spectacular non-coeval frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some drops of gilding. Artwork that has undergone a restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in some points, overall in a good state of conservation, with some color drops (see photo).
