Great 17th century religious painting, Saint Joseph with child

Antique Italian painting from the 17th century. Artwork oil on canvas depicting a religious subject St. Joseph with child of excellent pictorial quality. Painting of large size and pleasant furnishings adorned with a non-coeval frame, from the 20th century, finely carved, ebonized and gilded. Painting with a strong visual impact, the draperies of the Saint's robes and the sheet in which Jesus is wrapped are fabulous (see photo). Caravaggio-style work characterized by a skilful use of chiaroscuro. St. Joseph is identified thanks to the floral stick (see photo). According to tradition, in fact, Mary had grown up in the temple of Jerusalem and when she reached marriageable age, each of the suitors was given a dry branch, waiting for a divine sign. The only one that flourished was that of Joseph. Particular is the composition of the work with an already child Jesus (see photo). Painting that has undergone a conservative restoration, re-lining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in some points (see photo). Overall painting in good state of conservation.
